At Stony Brook Medicine, Hospital Attendants are valuable members of our team, primarily responsible for transporting patients and supplies throughout the hospital.

Responsibilities

  • Transport patients, equipment, materials, computer printouts, and specimens to all areas of the hospital in a timely, efficient, and courteous manner.
  • Locate and retrieve equipment to replenish inventory.
  • Transport the deceased to the hospital morgue.
  • Wash equipment in the Transport Services washing area.
  • Monitor dispatch responsibilities by answering phones, logging calls, and dispatching Transport Services personnel.
  • Perform daily scheduled runs for delivery of computerized reports, supplies, and medical records.
  • Ensure all services are performed efficiently and act as the responsible party to respond to service issues, taking appropriate remedial action.

Requirements

  • Ability to perform medium to heavy physical labor.

Qualifications

  • Preferred: High School Diploma and previous experience working in a hospital setting and/or with the patient population.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work with all levels of the organization.

Special Notes

  • This position may require wearing respiratory protection, which may prohibit facial hair.
  • This role may be designated as "essential," requiring employees to remain at work or report to work during institutional emergencies to protect, recover, and continue operations.

Prior to the start date, the selected candidate must meet the following requirements:

  • Successfully complete a pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicine’s Employee Health Services.
  • Complete an electronic reference check with a minimum of three professional references.
  • Successfully complete a 4-panel drug screen.
  • Meet regulatory requirements for pre-employment screenings.
  • Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).

Pay

The anticipated salary range for this position is $35,496 per year. The specific salary offer will be based on the candidate’s validated years of comparable experience. The hiring range at posting is $40,071 per year.

Additional compensation may include:

  • Location pay for full-time positions ($4,000).
  • Inconvenience pay/supplemental shift differential ($575).

Total compensation includes generous leave, health plans, and a state pension.
