Responsibilities
- Captures and coordinates inpatient and outpatient admissions, including bed assignments and preliminary paperwork.
- Verifies insurance benefits for hospital admission and ensures compliance with third-party payers and regulations.
- Coordinates admissions with medical, nursing, and accounting staff to ensure appropriate patient placement.
- Provides guidance and handles more complex assignments.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent with 4 years of relevant experience.
- Associate's degree preferred.
- Basic understanding of Central Registration, Health Information Management, Financial Counseling, and Pathology.
- Knowledgeable and proficient in using Hospital software, specifically EPIC.
Qualifications
- Interprets eligibility for admission/service/treatment plans.
- Documents accurately in the hospital computer system.
- Maintains and monitors patients in the system for accurate charges throughout inpatient stays.
- Provides timely information to Financial Counseling.
- Assigns accommodations and assists with coordination of patient transfers and discharges.
- Notifies Facilities regarding use of negative pressure rooms.
- Books reservations for prospective patients and guests.
- Remains aware of changes in bed requests and assigns patients to beds.
- Communicates with physicians and their offices regarding postponement of admissions/services.
- Affords assistance with administrative details related to decedent affairs.
- Notifies attending, referring, and PCP when a patient has been admitted to an inpatient service.
- Applies independent judgement in managing complex multi-factorial guidelines.
- Expedites patient movement and improves utilization of hospital resources.
- Tracks the completion of release of OR admission orders.
- Screens admit orders for codeable diagnoses and correct attending and services.
