Horse Trainer

About the Role

Culver Academies is seeking a Horse Trainer to support our Horsemanship Program. This role involves evaluating, retraining, and cross-training horses to ensure their successful integration into our program. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of English riding and training techniques, with a focus on developing horses for drills, parades, and ceremonial riding events.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate the capabilities of program horses and retrain or cross-train based on assessments.
• Break and train newly purchased or donated horses for integration into Culver’s Horsemanship Program.
• Perform horse grooming, clipping, trimming, and saddlery maintenance.
• Exercise horses and maintain a safe, clean stable environment.
• Work with ground poles and fences for training purposes.
• Conduct lunging and long reining using training aids.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent; completion of an accredited Equine Study Program with an emphasis on military riding is highly desired.
• At least four years of horse training experience.
• Experience riding over ground poles and fences for training.
• Competency in lunging and long reining with training aids.
• Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
• Physical ability to lift 50+ lbs frequently, bend, stoop, and walk extensively.
• Comfort working around horses and willingness to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.
• Ability to work as part of a team.
