Job Title Hone Machine Operator, 2nd Shift Reporting To Leader, Performance Work Schedule Onsite – Torrance, CA Our team in Military Aircraft Group is looking for an experienced Hone Machine Operator on 2nd shift (2:00pm-10:30pm) to join them. You will report to our Performance Leader and will have an on-site work schedule at our aerospace plant in Torrance, CA. Moog’s Military Aircraft Group is a global leader in designing primary and secondary flight control actuation systems (FCAS) for military aircraft. The Hone Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining honing equipment used to achieve precise dimensional tolerances, surface finishes, and geometric specifications on aerospace components. This role ensures all parts meet engineering, customer, FAA, and aerospace quality standards while adhering to safety and manufacturing requirements. Otherwise, demonstrated ability to understand and apply all verbal, written and computer work instructions or training in English, and demonstrated ability to perform simple addition, subtraction, multiplication and divisionMinimum 3 years or more experience with setting up and operating honing machinesAbility to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawingsUnderstanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)Experience using precision measuring instrumentsKnowledge of aerospace manufacturing standards and quality requirementsAbility to work independently with minimal supervision Preferred Qualifications Aerospace machining experienceAS9100 manufacturing environment experienceExperience with Sunnen or similar honing equipmentKnowledge of lean manufacturing principlesCNC honing experience Skills And Competencies Attention to detail and accuracyStrong problem-solving abilitiesMechanical aptitudeAbility to maintain tight tolerancesEffective communication and teamwork skillsCommitment to quality and continuous improvement Physical Requirements Ability to stand for extended periodsAbility to lift up to 50 pounds occasionallyFrequent reaching, bending, and handling of machined componentsAbility to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to machine noise, oils, and coolants Work Environment Aerospace manufacturing/machine shop settingUse of required personal protective equipment (PPE)May require overtime and weekend work to meet production demands In This Role, You Will Set up and operate horizontal and vertical honing machines.Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions.Hone precision aerospace components to required tolerances and surface finish specifications.Select and install appropriate honing stones, tooling, fixtures, and abrasives.Measure and inspect finished parts using precision measuring instruments, including:Bore gaugesMicrometersCalipersDial indicatorsAir gaugesDemonstrated experience holding to a tolerance of .0001.Verify conformance to customer and aerospace quality requirements.Perform in-process inspections and document results accurately.Adjust machine settings to maintain dimensional accuracy and process capability.Identify and report nonconforming materials or quality issues.Perform routine machine maintenance and housekeeping activities.Follow all company safety procedures and AS9100 quality system requirements.Work collaboratively with machinists, quality inspectors, engineers, and production personnel to meet delivery schedules.Positively contribute to the teamwork environment in terms of productivity, cooperation, data collection, and attitudeWork on a wide variety of parts with diverse configurations and complexity, building broad machining experience.Operate equipment outside your area of expertise, as necessary, although you're not required to be an "expert" in all machine families (lathes, mills, grinders, etc.).
