About the role

Right At Home in Home Care, located in Wallingford, CT, is currently hiring retirees and veterans for the position of Homemaker/Companion. The ideal candidate will be open to change, willing to learn new skills, and provide companionship and home care assistance to elderly clients.

Responsibilities

  • Provide companionship and home care assistance to elderly clients in targeted areas: Wallingford, Meriden, Middletown, Southington, Cheshire, Waterbury, Naugatuck, Watertown, Woodbury and surrounding areas.
  • Work with a flexible schedule to accommodate the needs of clients.
  • Assist with tasks such as eating, personal hygiene, dressing, shaving, light housekeeping, laundry, and other household chores.
  • Remind clients of their medications and assist with prescribed range of motion exercises.
  • Engage in companionship activities like reading, music, puzzles, etc.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English as needed for the job.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must have reliable transportation and a valid driver's license with auto insurance.
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED.
  • Must be able to pass a full employment background check.
  • Must have basic computer skills and navigate with little assistance from others.

Nice to Have's

  • CNA or HHA Certification.
  • 6 months of experience as a Caregiver/Home Health Aide in healthcare.
  • Covid Vaccination.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification.

Must Haves

  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English as needed for the job.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and current automobile insurance.
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED.
  • Must meet the requirements for employees providing direct patient care.
  • Must have the ability to pass a full employment background check.
  • Must have successfully completed a Competency Evaluation that meets the State licensing law for home health agencies.
  • Current CPR Certificate is recommended.
  • 6 months experience as a Home Health Aide in health care (in homes or facilities) and successful completion of a State-approved Nurse Aide or Home Health Aide course.
