About the role

South Puget Sound Habitat for Humanity is an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International focused on providing affordable housing solutions in Thurston and Lewis counties. We believe that every person, no matter who they are, deserves a decent place to live. Our work includes building new, energy-efficient homes, preparing households for homeownership, guaranteeing affordable mortgages to homebuyers, performing critical housing repairs, and running two successful resale stores.

Responsibilities

  • Program Management (45%): Evaluate all program applications, conduct onsite assessments, match qualified participants with appropriate funding sources, and schedule projects with internal staff or outside contractors. Ensure all repair projects meet funding source requirements and ensure timely reporting and compliance.

  • Direction and Resources (20%): Work closely with all programs staff and senior director of programs to strategically align service offerings with community needs and resource opportunities. Identify and document strategic and annual goals in alignment with housing data trends, funding availability, and internal capacity. Explore programmatic expansion and innovation, including service offerings, revenue, vendors, contractors, and partnerships; design, pilot, evaluate, and implement all service expansions. Establish annual program evaluation, assessment, and improvement processes, including program participation satisfaction surveys; maintain documentation and reporting. Support relevant staff in researching, prioritizing, applying, and closing out all grant awards; lead program-related compliance efforts for grant awards. Collaborate with advancement staff to create and implement outreach, marketing, and awareness plans for ongoing program participant recruitment.

  • Onsite Home Repair Construction (20%): When program demands are high, the manager will conduct onsite construction-related duties in tandem with repair staff. Assist with common repairs, which could include drywall, framing, ramp building, grab bar or shower installs, and other accessibility projects.

  • Personnel Management (10%): Mobilize, train, and manage staff toward successful completion of their annual plan goals, as well as program and organizational standards. Meet regularly with staff to check in on goals, program delivery obstacles, and to provide ongoing support for professional development. Establish a culture and environment where staff are empowered to, and capable of, leading and motivating volunteers in the successful completion of repair projects.

  • Leadership, Teamwork, and Inclusivity (5%): All team members are responsible for contributing to overall organizational health through positive collaboration, leadership, personal integrity, and a commitment to equity and inclusion. Maintain a “team first” outlook, supporting the success of the team and the mission in attitude, ideas, and actions; lead by example and with active, creative input for growing and improving the organization. Meet and endorse organization standards for record keeping and information sharing. Contribute to organization events, helping as necessary with set up/take down, management, networking, various tasks, etc. Participate in intentional learning efforts, including events relating to understanding institutional racism and building cultural competency.

Requirements

  • Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent; bachelor’s degree preferred. Three years of program management, project startup, or customer service support experience. Two years of construction or repair-related experience with ability to complete onsite construction duties in coordination with repair staff. One year of previous supervisory or management experience.

  • Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Exceptionally organized with the ability to manage multiple projects, a demanding workload, and day-to-day tasks while maintaining program participant satisfaction. Strong relationship building skills with an ability to work constructively with a variety of people. Understanding and abilities in project management practices and principles. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Tech-savvy with a strong understanding of common email/calendar applications and tracking tools, and an ability to adopt and optimize new technologies. Proven ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion. Ability to pass a background and reference check. Commitment to the South Puget Sound Habitat mission and core values.

Details

  • Reports to: Senior Director of Programs

  • Hours: 40 hours per week. Typical business hours with some flexibility for preferred schedules.

  • Compensation: Non-exempt, hourly position. Position range: $26.44-$33.65 per hour (equivalent of $55,000-$70,000 annually); expected hire range: $26.44-$30.29 per hour (equivalent of $55,000-$63,000 annually).

  • FLSA Status: This position is not exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA); it earns overtime for additional time worked.

  • Benefits: 26 vacation/sick/personal days initially, increasing over time; 13 holidays; 85% employer-paid health, 50% employer-paid dental, 100% employer-paid vision; Simple IRA with 3% match.

  • Environment: This position will be regularly required to use a phone, computer, keyboard and screen, communicate with others, reach with arms and hands, and sit for extended periods. Must be able to lift 50 pounds repeatedly; walk on uneven ground; climb to and stand at heights; stand for long periods of time; bend, kneel, lift, grab and carry items; use hands to finger, handle or feel; work at a computer; and drive all construction vehicles and trailers.

  • Conditions: This position will be regularly required to use a computer keyboard and screen, communicate with others, reach with arms and hands to file and use a phone, and sit for extended periods.

  • Training: The successful candidate will be onboarded and initially trained through a combination of in-person, online, and written trainings; they are expected to take the initiative to review materials as needed and seek understanding of new developments in order to perform their responsibilities. Additionally, the successful candidate will be required, at organization’s expense, to secure and maintain a Competent Person safety designation, notary public commission, as well as earn and maintain a qualified loan originator certification. Additional trainings or certifications may also be identified in the future.
