Home Based Respite Support
Part-time and full-time positions available:
- Part-time: 20 hours or less, Thursday and Friday, 9 am - 5 pm
- Full-time: 40 hours, Monday through Friday, 9 am - 5 pm
About the Role
Home-Based Residential Supports direct support staff are responsible for providing high-quality direct care services to adults with developmental disabilities and high medical needs. Staff ensure the human rights of all individuals served are met and treat individuals with dignity and respect. Direct support staff support individuals in completing daily routines and provide opportunities to learn and exercise increasing independence as much as practicable.
Responsibilities
- Ensure the health, safety, and wellbeing of the individual served, seeking assistance and medical interventions as appropriate.
- Serve as a Mandated Reporter; report suspected abuse and/or neglect of an individual to the direct supervisor, DDS, and DPPC immediately.
- Handle crisis situations according to agency policies and procedures, seeking resources when necessary.
- Monitor home site for safety, cleanliness, and upkeep; take necessary action to ensure the same and report safety concerns per established protocols.
- Establish rapport with the individual participating in the Home-Based Residential Supports program.
- Support the learning of the individual using motivational techniques, effective interventions, and various communication approaches (verbal, gesture, written).
- Assist the individual with activities of daily living (ADLs) as applicable to each individual’s abilities.
- Schedule and accompany individuals to medical appointments/treatments; ensure accurate reporting to physicians and follow through with doctor’s orders and recommendations.
- Produce accurate, legible, and complete medical documentation for individuals served, including treatment charts and data sheets.
- Ensure individuals are provided with nutritionally sound food options and education about the impact of their food consumption.
- Carry out all interventions in an individual’s Behavioral Protocol Plan as written and trained.
- Redirect and/or physically support individuals who may be aggressive using proactive techniques while maintaining self-control.
- Communicate effectively, professionally, and respectfully with individuals, co-workers, management, guardians, and others while on company time.
- Familiarize yourself with and abide by agency, department, and program policies and procedures; act in a manner consistent with organizational values, mission, and goals.
- Attend and actively participate in mandatory staff meetings, trainings, and supervision meetings.
