Histotechnologist Specialist - Dermatology & Mohs Surgery (Full-Time, Days)

Responsibilities

• Sets up specimens in the LIS.
• Processes, embeds, cuts, and stains tissue to produce high-quality slides.
• Prepares solutions for tissue processing and slide staining.
• Accurately performs special and immunohistochemical stains.
• Maintains reagents according to proper dilutions and expiration dates.
• Performs routine maintenance on equipment following procedures.
• Completes mandatory and continuing education as required by the department.
• Monitors and reports inventory levels to ensure timely reordering.
• Performs frozen section analysis for pathologists.
• Analyzes and resolves problems using scientific methods.
• Notifies supervisors of issues requiring attention.
• Maintains departmental readiness for regulatory compliance.
• Complies with all procedures and company policies.
• Communicates essential information to appropriate personnel.
• Participates in departmental meetings.
• Supports a positive work environment.
• Participates in grossing biopsy specimens and ensuring accurate specimen submission.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Technology or related field required or equivalent work experience.
• At least two years of relevant Medical Technology Laboratory experience required.
• New York State Department of Education License or Limited Permit as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist, Certified Histological Technician, or Clinical Laboratory Technician preferred.
• Certification by American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) preferred.

Additional Duties

• Participates in rotations involving biopsy specimen grossing in the trim room.
