Responsibilities
- Sets up specimens in the LIS.
- Processes, embeds, cuts, and stains tissue to produce high-quality slides.
- Prepares solutions for tissue processing and slide staining.
- Accurately performs special and immunohistochemical stains.
- Maintains reagents according to proper dilutions and expiration dates.
- Performs routine maintenance on equipment following procedures.
- Completes mandatory and continuing education as required by the department.
- Monitors and reports inventory levels to ensure timely reordering.
- Performs frozen section analysis for pathologists.
- Analyzes and resolves problems using scientific methods.
- Notifies supervisors of issues requiring attention.
- Maintains departmental readiness for regulatory compliance.
- Complies with all procedures and company policies.
- Communicates essential information to appropriate personnel.
- Participates in departmental meetings.
- Supports a positive work environment.
- Participates in grossing biopsy specimens and ensuring accurate specimen submission.
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Technology or related field required or equivalent work experience.
- At least two years of relevant Medical Technology Laboratory experience required.
- New York State Department of Education License or Limited Permit as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist, Certified Histological Technician, or Clinical Laboratory Technician preferred.
- Certification by American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) preferred.
Additional Duties
- Participates in rotations involving biopsy specimen grossing in the trim room.
