About the role
Wisconsin Diagnostic Laboratories (WDL) is a subsidiary of Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin, offering comprehensive clinical laboratory services across various healthcare settings. As a Histology Technician I, II, or Histotechnologist, you will play a crucial role in preparing tissue specimens for pathological examination.
Responsibilities
- Consistently receives, accepts, and recognizes specimens and requests that arrive in the lab.
- Maintains specimen identification throughout the entire process, including proper handling of STAT specimens.
- Processes special testing requests according to protocol, including bone marrow decal and processing.
- Operates and maintains Peloris and VIP processors, performing daily maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Embeds tissue blocks according to department standards, ensuring adequate paraffin supply and maintaining a clean work area.
- Operates and maintains microtome, determining acceptable vs. unacceptable sections and cutting blocks within timeframes.
- Prepares and maintains stains, selecting appropriate reagents and demonstrating working knowledge of stainers and coverslippers.
- Uses Cerner to manage case assembly, pull slides and blocks, and resolve discrepancies before distribution.
- Maintains laboratory instruments according to established protocols, operating cryostats correctly and replacing blades as necessary.
- Performs special stains, programs, loads, unloads, and troubleshoots Artisan Links, and prepares staining solutions.
- Trains and mentors Histotechnicians I and II, students, and lab assistants, and writes and revises technical procedures.
Requirements
- Associate’s Degree in Histotechnology or High School Diploma with HT or HTL ASCP certification or ASCP eligibility.
- Successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnician program within the last 5 years, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Current HTL ASCP certification for Histotechnologist positions.
Qualifications
- Associate’s Degree in Histotechnology or High School Diploma with HT or HTL ASCP certification or ASCP eligibility.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Histotechnology or Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college/university with a combination of 12 semester hours (18 quarter hours) of biology and chemistry.
- Current HTL ASCP certification for Histotechnologist positions.

Pay
Competitive compensation package based on experience and qualifications.
