Yosemite Pathology is a private independent pathologist-owned and operated surgical pathology and cytology laboratory based in Modesto, CA. YP provides comprehensive, state-of-the-art, reliable, and accurate diagnostic services to physicians and major area hospitals in Alameda, Amador, Calaveras, Contra Costa, Kern, Mariposa, Merced, San Joaquin, Solano, Stanislaus, and Tuolumne counties. YP offers a full spectrum of tissue pathology, cytology, and histology services, including examination of gynecologic specimens, body fluids, and fine needle aspiration specimens. We also offer an extensive array of special stains and immunohistochemistry to assist in the management of oncologic and non-oncologic diseases. The laboratory is supported by highly qualified histotechnologists, cytotechnologists, technicians, and office staff who provide excellent service.

About the role

The Histology Technician is responsible for preparing slides from tissue samples for the pathologist to review. They prioritize testing procedures and complete them accurately and timely while maintaining proper records of all tests in accordance with established policies, procedures, and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Daily cleaning and setup of work area, including instruments, water bath, microtome, and workbench.
  • Paraffin embedding of routine Anatomic Pathology tissue specimens.
  • Produce quality sections of all paraffin-embedded routine Anatomic Pathology tissue specimens, including cutting of all "levels," "recuts," "re-embeds," and stains.
  • Basic understanding and execution of the H&E stain, including checking H&E control for stain quality.
  • Daily maintenance of the Prisma stainer and coverslipper.
  • Retrieve correct tissue blocks and slides from storage areas.
  • Maintain special stain control bank and cutting control blocks as needed.
  • Troubleshoot Prisma stainer issues.
  • Basic understanding of Histology special stains and the tissue components they stain for, including the use of appropriate controls.

Requirements

  • 2–4 years of Histology experience.
  • ASCP HT Certification (preferred).
  • Associate's degree in biology or related field (preferred).
  • Intermediate computer skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Manual dexterity and strong attention to detail.

Schedule

Monday – Friday, 12:00 AM – 8:30 AM.

Pay

The compensation is $47,840 – $62,400 annually, paid semi-monthly on an eight-hour per day, forty-hour per week basis. Final salary offer is subject to multiple factors, including candidate experience, expertise, geographic location, and current market data.
