Job Responsibilities
- Manage the daily operations of assigned laboratory group to ensure that specimens are properly shipped and received, tests are performed accurately and efficiently, and results are reported in a timely manner.
- Monitor daily workflow in the lab, plan/schedule for adequate assay coverage, and troubleshoot/escalate problems, as necessary.
- Directly supervise, train, and mentor laboratory testing staff.
- Absorb and assist with the hiring of qualified, enthusiastic employees, including technical and non-technical team members.
- Maintain oversight of time tracking system for employees and ensure attendance expectations are being met.
- Engage in continuous process and service improvement.
- Provide technical troubleshooting and decision making.
- Monitor QC and maintenance of all laboratory equipment.
- Evaluate new process improvements and make appropriate recommendations based on thorough evaluation of technical, quality and efficiency impact.
- Absorb and assist with monitoring sample progression and responding to sample status inquiries from customer service as needed.
- Perform bench work as needed and maintain proficiency/competency in technical operations.
- Ensure all work is in accordance with state and Federal regulations, organizational policy, and accreditation/compliance requirements.
- Meet regularly with direct reports. Provide coaching and constructive feedback, and career development discussions.
- Write and deliver performance reviews and build a positive team environment.
Requirements
- Associate’s degree in a Chemical or Biological Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology
- 3 years or more prior histology experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a Chemical or Biological Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology
- 1 year or more leadership experience
- Histology and/or ASCP certifications
- Current or prior Labcorp experience
Additional Job Standards
- Strong working knowledge of CLIA, CAP and relevant state regulations
- Understanding of laboratory operations as well as policies and procedures
- Proficient with Laboratory Information Systems and Microsoft Office
- Strong communication skills; both written and verbal
- High level of attention to detail with strong organizational skills
- Comfortable making decisions in a changing environment
- Able to handle the physical requirements of the position
- Able to pass a standardized color blindness test
Pay Range
$90,000 - $130,000 per year
