Highway Technician Assistant I

By joining our Carroll County Unit as a Highway Technician Assistant I, you'll perform basic level work of highway roadway or roadside and construction operations.

Responsibilities

• Operate a small single axle dump truck hauling materials to and from job sites.
• Operate dump trucks with snow plow and salt spreader to work in the winter months.
• Operate a tractor-type mowing machine, assist in brush cutting, and use chemical sprayers.
• Learn and assist with basic surveying activities or construction projects.
• Flag for operations requiring traffic control.
• Perform minor repairs and maintenance work on equipment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school graduate.
• Must be 18 years of age.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license to qualify for employment in this job classification.
• Within 12 months of employment, must furnish documentation of a valid Class B commercial driver's license.
• Within one year of employment, must complete First Aid and Snow and Ice Training and possess Traffic Control/Flagger and OSHA 10 Certifications or equivalent.
• Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification.
• Must be currently authorized to work in the United States for any employer.
• Employees in this position are prohibited from using medical cannabis, even if legalized in Kentucky.

Working Conditions

• Work is typically performed at a highway maintenance facility, section office, work sites throughout the assigned area, and occasionally district-wide.
• Exposure to risks inherent to working with large equipment and machines involved in road construction.
• Must be able to work extended hours and outdoors during inclement weather.
• Work on rough terrain and in changing climates.
• May require shift work or on-call schedules.

Pay

$17.95 hourly plus a $3.00 per hour locality premium.

Schedule

40 hours per week.
