As a Highway Technician Assistant I in Magoffin County, you will operate basic automotive and power equipment, assist with beginning-level engineering tasks, and perform various maintenance duties.
Responsibilities
- Operate equipment including bush hogs, chainsaws, chemical sprayers, chippers, jack hammers, mowing tractors, single axle trucks (dump, flatbed, pickup), snow plows, salt spreaders, broom sweepers, and weed trimmers.
- Flag traffic for highway crews.
- Assist in brush cutting and controlling operations around structures and highways.
- Perform minor repairs and maintenance on equipment.
- Operate dump trucks with snow plows and salt spreaders.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Must obtain a Class B commercial driver’s license within 12 months of employment.
- Must complete First Aid, Snow and Ice Training, Traffic Control/Flagger, and OSHA 10 Certifications (or equivalent) within one year of employment.
- Must maintain all required licensure, certifications, or credentials for the duration of employment.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Must be currently authorized to work in the United States.

Pay
$17.95 per hour.
Working Conditions
- Work is performed at highway maintenance facilities, section offices, work sites throughout the assigned area, and occasionally district-wide.
- Exposure to risks inherent in working with large equipment and road construction machinery.
- Must be able to work extended hours and outdoors during inclement weather.
