Highway Section Head

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Cook up a strategic growth plan with office managers and practice leaders
• Build and expand market presence in the area through marketing and business development
• Manage the financial budget for the department and allocate resources accordingly
• Lead and contribute to the creation of proposals
• Act as a technical expert for project managers and technical staff
• Establish and meet staffing needs for the section
• Conduct interviews and hire staff for the section
• Conduct performance reviews for staff based on feedback from project managers
• Coordinate work-sharing within the region and between regions

Required Skills

• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
• Proficiency in Microsoft Projects for project schedule development
• Proficiency in OpenRoads and/or MicroStation

Required Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field from an accredited program
• Professional Engineer License
• 15+ years’ experience in specialized discipline
• Project management and business development experience
• Successfully manage and lead multiple projects in a dynamic, fast-paced team-oriented environment
• Ability to manage, mentor, and guide staff
• Thorough understanding of TXDOT design standards, policies, specifications, and IPD process

Qualifications Preferred

• Experience collaborating with local clients at the county and state level
• TXDOT and municipal experience preferred
• Supervisory experience and leading a multidiscipline team preferred
