About the role
JMT is seeking a highly motivated individual for our Knoxville office who has the desire to lead a mature Highways section in a collaborative and progressive workplace. The selected candidate will be responsible for the Highways practice in the Knoxville office, including supervising staff and development and execution of a strategic plan. They will also oversee project management, ensuring delivery of all project objectives such as scope, schedule, and budget.
This role requires experience with both the technical and business sides of the practice, including maintaining client relationships, workload management, financial performance, and staff development to continue our tradition of providing high-quality products and services.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate strategic growth plan with office leader, regional manager, and practice leaders
- Establish and grow market presence through marketing and business development activities
- Manage financial budget for the department and allocate resources accordingly
- Lead and contribute to the production of proposals
- Serve as a technical expertise resource to project managers and technical staff
- Establish resource staffing needs for the section
- Interview and hire staff for the section
- Perform performance reviews for staff based on input from project managers on assigned teams
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field from an accredited program
- Professional Engineer License
- 10+ years’ experience in specialized discipline
- Project management and business development experience
- Proven TDOT PM experience and the ability to win work with a variety of clients
- Proficient in Microsoft Office

Working Conditions
Work is performed within a general office environment. Work is generally sedentary in nature but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.
