Responsibilities

  • Operates tandem dump truck to haul maintenance and construction materials such as concrete pipes, asphalt, dirt, and coquina.
  • Performs manual labor tasks including clearing right-of-way, cleaning drainage ditches, repairing shoulders, patching potholes, making base repairs, repairing bridges, paving driveways, and laying sideline/cross line pipe.
  • Coordinates placement of traffic control devices to properly set up work zones according to the Traffic Control Manual.
  • Flags traffic during road repairs to control flow and protect workers, the public, and equipment.
  • Performs duties during inclement weather and after-hour emergencies, potentially working 12-hour shifts.
  • Conducts and documents pre-operation vehicle or equipment inspections.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on equipment as outlined in equipment specifications.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Six (6) months of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence.
  • Valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
  • Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.

Physical Demands

  • Bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping, and physically manipulating objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Requires walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, and working in close proximity to motoring traffic and natural environmental hazards.
  • May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies.
  • Frequently exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions, noise, and oil or grease on a daily basis.
