Highway Maintenance Worker II Medium Equipment Operator (61036482) ***RE-ADVERTISEMENT***

Job Responsibilities

Performs skilled manual labor and operates a tandem dump truck in various activities associated with road and bridge maintenance.

• Repairs potholes and base surface failures of the roadway using hand tools like a shovel, pick, rake, and asphalt lute.
• Operates a front end loader to load materials and perform shoulders, ditches, and drainage structure operations.
• Coordinates the placement of traffic control devices to set up maintenance work zones according to the SCDOT guidelines.
• Assists in emergency and inclement weather operations, including operating medium or heavy duty equipment.
• May include availability for extended working hours or 12-hour shifts.

Necessary Special Requirements

• A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
• Must attain a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.

Physical Demands

• Bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping, and physically manipulating objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material.
• Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Frequent exposure to outside environment in all weather conditions, noise, and oil or grease.

Overtime and Shifts

• May be required to work overtime, nighttime, and/or weekends during hazardous weather or emergencies.
