About the role

The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) seeks a Highway Maintenance Technician for the Maintenance Program located in Jackson, Wyoming. This position offers a $2,000 hiring bonus, $2,713 monthly housing assistance, and a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, and vision insurance, paid vacation, sick leave, FMLA, and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains and operates complex equipment safely and proficiently
  • Assists with training other technicians in the operation and maintenance of equipment
  • Operates heavy equipment including single and tandem axle trucks, augers, aerial lift equipment, plows, wing plows, sanders, and chemical systems to remove snow and ice from the roadway surface
  • Rehabilitates roadway surfaces and/or traffic control devices such as signs and pavement markings
  • Maintains and rehabilitates highway-related facilities such as rest areas, performs water and waste water treatment according to EPA and DEQ requirements
  • Attends and completes all state and federal training required to obtain/maintain certifications, perform inspections, and learn new skills
  • Communicates information in order to update others' status and/or process effectiveness
  • Utilizes computers for agency practices, such as for training and performance evaluations, and keeps up to date on technological advances with specialized equipment
  • Removes snow and ice from roadways; determines effectiveness of treatments and may determine when a change in treatment is necessary
  • Adheres to all state and federal safety and quality standards, including the correct use of all associated personal protective equipment

Qualifications

  • PREFERENCE: Preference may be given to applicants who have a current Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements prior to employment.
  • KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge of state highway pavement marking and signing standards, state and federal highway safety standards and traffic control procedures, equipment maintenance and repair procedures, hazardous materials response procedures, federal and state requirements for the proper use of personal protective equipment, basic equipment operation for single and tandem axle trucks, loaders, and tractors, safe work procedures, First Aid, and CPR, and OSHA Safety Data Sheets for chemicals used in maintenance activities, and basic office equipment such as computers, calculators, and telephones.
  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education & Experience - 2-4 years of relative work experience (typically in Highway Maintenance/Highway Construction), Associate's Degree (typically in Engineering), or equivalent. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations - Must have the ability to obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License within twelve (12) months of hire, or Education - Must have the ability to obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License within twelve (12) months of hire.
