The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) seeks a Highway Maintenance Technician for its District Maintenance Program in Granger, Wyoming. Located near the confluence of the Blacks Fork and Hams Fork Rivers, Granger offers a peaceful lifestyle with easy access to modern amenities.
Responsibilities
- Maintains and operates complex equipment safely and proficiently
- Aids in training other technicians in the operation and maintenance of equipment
- Flags traffic and sets up traffic control devices under limited supervision
- Operates heavy equipment, including single and tandem axle trucks, augers, aerial lift equipment, plows, wing plows, sanders, and chemical systems to remove snow and ice from the roadway surface
- Rehabilitates roadway surfaces and/or traffic control devices such as signs and pavement markings
- Maintains and supports highway-related facilities such as rest areas, including water and wastewater treatment according to EPA and DEQ requirements
- Attends and completes all state and federal training required to obtain/maintain certifications, perform inspections, and learn new skills
- Communicates information to update others' status and/or process effectiveness
- Utilizes computers for agency practices, such as training and performance evaluations, and stays updated on technological advances with specialized equipment
- Removes snow and ice from roadways; determines effectiveness of treatments and may determine when a change in treatment is necessary
- Adheres to all state and federal safety and quality standards, including the correct use of all associated personal protective equipment
Requirements
- Possesses a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CPL) with appropriate endorsements within 30 days of employment
- Possesses a Class A CDL within 9 months of hire
- Education: Associate's Degree (typically in Engineering)
- Experience: 2-4 years of relative work experience (typically in Highway Maintenance/Highway Construction)
- Knowledge: Knowledge of state highway pavement marking and signing standards, state and federal highway safety standards and traffic control procedures, equipment maintenance and repair procedures, hazardous materials response procedures, federal and state requirements for proper use of personal protective equipment, basic equipment operation for single and tandem axle trucks, loaders and tractors, safe work procedures, First Aid and CPR, and OSHA Safety Data Sheets for chemicals used in maintenance activities, and the ability to utilize basic office equipment such as computers, calculators, and telephones
Qualifications
- PREFERENCES: Preference may be given to those applicants with 3-4 years of progressive work experience (typically in Highway Construction and/or Highway Maintenance)
- KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge of state highway pavement marking and signing standards, state and federal highway safety standards and traffic control procedures, equipment maintenance and repair procedures, hazardous materials response procedures, federal and state requirements for proper use of personal protective equipment, basic equipment operation for single and tandem axle trucks, loaders and tractors, safe work procedures, First Aid and CPR, and OSHA Safety Data Sheets for chemicals used in maintenance activities, and the ability to utilize basic office equipment such as computers, calculators, and telephones
Skills
Must have the ability to obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License within twelve (12) months of hire OR Education: Associate's Degree (typically in Engineering)
