About the role

As a High School Special Education Teacher, you will develop and implement educational activities and programs aligned with IEP goals, ensuring they are functional and age-appropriate to promote student achievement. You will plan daily and weekly schedules, collect and analyze IEP goal data, and evaluate necessary changes. You will prepare assessments, present performance levels for IEP meetings, and participate in developing appropriate IEP goals. Additionally, you will train, supervise, and evaluate classroom staff, maintain classroom and student records, and communicate regularly with parents or guardians about students' progress.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement educational activities and programs in accordance with IEP goals.
• Plan daily and weekly schedules for each student.
• Collect and analyze IEP goal data; evaluate and adjust IEP goals as needed.
• Prepare assessments and present levels of performance for IEP meetings.
• Participate in the development of appropriate IEP goals for students.
• Train, supervise, and evaluate classroom lead teacher aides and education specialists.
• Maintain classroom information book, student program books, lesson plans, student files, and emergency packets.
• Maintain regular communication with parents or guardians regarding students' educational progress, programs, and activities.
• Model appropriate behavior for students and staff, treating students with dignity and respect.

Requirements

• Valid Illinois teaching license.
• Valid LBS 1 certification (or meet requirements for short-term emergency approval).
• Valid Illinois driver’s license.
• Ability to meet all licensing standards of the Department of Human Services and the Department of Child and Family Services.

Preferred Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience as a Special Education Classroom Teacher.
• Previous supervisory experience.
• Good interpersonal skills.

Pay

Salary range: $50,000–$88,000, commensurate with education and years of teaching experience. Sign-on bonus: $5,000–$10,000.
