Community of Peace Academy is an urban public charter school located on the East Side of St. Paul, Minnesota, serving over 800 students in grades PreK to 12. About the Role

The Special Education Teacher will provide direct and indirect academic and behavioral instruction and support to eligible students in a resource setting and in the general classroom in accordance with individual IEP needs. This role includes overseeing due process requirements for students on their caseload, directing the work of program paraprofessionals, collaborating with classroom teachers and administrators to support student academic and social/emotional success, monitoring student progress, and facilitating due process meetings.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct and indirect academic and behavioral instruction to eligible students in resource and general classroom settings.
• Oversee due process requirements for students on assigned caseload.
• Direct the work of program paraprofessionals.
• Collaborate with classroom teachers and administrators to support student academic and social/emotional success.
• Monitor student progress and facilitate due process meetings.

Requirements

• MN Teaching license in ASD, ABS, SLD, or EBD.
• Strong background in academic and social/emotional skills instruction.
• Experience in behavior management.
• Strong cross-cultural communication and collaboration skills with students, families, and staff.
• Unyielding commitment to helping all students attain high academic and ethical standards of performance.

Support & Structure

• Manage a caseload of 15 students.
• Allocated time within the school day to complete due process work.
• Supported by a full-time, on-site Special Education Coordinator, Due Process Specialist, and Special Education Coach.
• All new teachers are paired with a Mentor.
