High School Special Education Teacher | Hope Learning Academy

About the role

The High School Special Education Teacher position at Hope Learning Academy is full-time based in Glen Carbon, IL. The salary range is $50,000 to $88,000, commensurate with education and years of teaching experience. A sign-on bonus of $5,000 to $10,000 is also offered.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement educational activities and programs in accordance with IEP goals, ensuring they are functional and age-appropriate to promote achievement of each student's IEP goals.
• Plan daily and weekly schedules for each student.
• Collect and analyze IEP goal data and evaluate any changes to IEP goals needed.
• Prepare assessments and present levels of performance for IEP meetings and participate in the development of appropriate IEP goals for students.
• Train, supervise, and evaluate classroom lead teacher aides and education specialists.
• Maintain current classroom information book, student program books, lesson plans, student files, and emergency packets.
• Maintain regular communication with parents or guardians regarding students' educational progress, programs, and activities.
• Model appropriate behavior to students and staff (manner of speech, appropriate dress, etc.) and treat students with dignity and respect.

Requirements

• A valid Illinois teaching license.
• A valid LBS 1 certification (or meet all requirements for short-term emergency approval for LBS 1 certification).
• A valid Illinois driver’s license.
• Ability to meet all licensing standards of the Department of Human Services and the Department of Child and Family Services.

Qualifications

• 3+ years experience as a Special Education Classroom Teacher.
• Previous supervisory experience.
• Good interpersonal skills.

• Strong knowledge of special education curriculum and best practices.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Proficiency in using technology for educational purposes.
