Reports to: Director of Athletics and building administrator.
About the Role
To provide each enrolled middle-school student an opportunity to participate in extracurricular athletics that foster physical skills, self-worth, sports knowledge, and fair play.
Responsibilities
- Assist in organizing and administering the overall extracurricular-athletics program.
- Foster good school-community relations.
- Attend and supervise all home athletic contests; arrange substitutes when necessary.
- Assist with arrival and departure of visiting teams and officials.
- Assist with crowd control and other contest-day obligations.
- Support the High School AM Athletic Coordinator with seasonal tasks.
- Confirm game workers, security, and officials totals in scheduling software.
- Assign and confirm athletic-contest game workers.
- Maintain master game-worker schedules.
- Develop rules governing student conduct at after-school events.
- Provide equipment and supply requests for budget development.
- Arrange details of visiting teams’ needs and share site information.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff.
- Organize or assist at end-of-season banquets, back-to-school sports nights, pre-season coaches meetings, college signing days, and similar events.
- Perform calculations and basic math functions related to the position.
- Apply common sense to practical problems.
- Use basic computer knowledge for assigned tasks.
- Adhere to all district and Board of Education guidelines and policies.
Requirements
- Valid Connecticut coaching certification or temporary emergency coaching permit.
- Updated CPR/First Aid training approved by Connecticut State Department of Education.
- Ability to organize and supervise a total sports program.
- Substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of middle-school sports.
- Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position.
Pay
Placement on the negotiated teachers A-2 schedule.
