About the role
The Springfield Public Schools seeks a highly qualified Earth Science teacher for grades 8-12. This position requires a content area license from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, along with a Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree with a content area license preferred.
Responsibilities
- Meets and instructs assigned classes in designated locations and times.
- Plans a program of study that meets individual student needs, interests, and abilities.
- Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to students' maturity and interests.
- Guides the learning process towards meeting district curriculum goals and establishes clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects.
- Uses various instructional techniques and media, considering physical constraints and student capabilities.
- Strives to implement the district's educational philosophy and performance expectations through instruction and actions.
- Affirms student learning progress regularly and provides progress reports as required, communicating with parents as needed.
- Maintains accurate records and diagnoses student learning challenges, seeking specialized assistance when necessary.
- Maintains a safe environment by following safety protocols and adhering to the district's code of conduct.
- Supervises paraprofessionals and evaluates their work as required.
- Maintains a continuous professional growth plan that meets district requirements and personal professional expectations.
- Participates in the teacher evaluation process and contributes to mutual agreements based on the evaluation results.
- Attends building and district meetings to promote communication and mutual decision-making among staff.
- Attends traditional school-sponsored activities as agreed upon by the building administrator and faculty.
- Contributes to decisions regarding budget, facilities, curriculum, and personal well-being.
- Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
Qualifications
- Highly qualified with required competency in the content area.
- Appropriate content/program area educator license (Earth Science) and grade level (8-12) licensure from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
- Bachelor's Degree with appropriate license; or Master's Degree with appropriate content area license preferred and/or expected within 5 years.
