About the role
The Springfield Public Schools seeks a highly qualified Earth Science teacher to join our dedicated team. This position involves meeting and instructing assigned classes, planning a curriculum that meets individual student needs, creating a supportive learning environment, and assessing student progress.
Responsibilities
- Meets and instructs assigned classes in designated locations and times.
- Plans a program of study that addresses the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
- Guides the learning process towards achieving district curriculum goals and establishes clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects.
- Employs various instructional techniques and media, consistent with physical constraints and student capabilities.
- Strives to implement the district's philosophy of education and instructional goals.
- Affirms the learning achievements of students regularly and provides progress reports as required.
- Maintains accurate records and diagnoses learning challenges, seeking assistance from district specialists as needed.
- Takes necessary precautions to ensure the safety of students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Enforces a code of conduct for the classroom that aligns with administrative policies and develops classroom behavior rules.
- Supervises assignments for paraprofessionals and provides written evaluations as required.
- Maintains a continuous program of professional growth that meets district requirements and personal expectations.
- Participates in the teacher evaluation process and contributes to mutually agreed-upon outcomes.
- Attends building and district meetings to promote communication and mutual decision-making among staff.
- Attends traditional school-sponsored activities as agreed upon by the building administrator and faculty.
- Contributes to decisions regarding budget, facilities, curriculum, and personal well-being.
- Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
Requirements
- Highly qualified with required competency in the content area.
- Appropriate content/program area educator license (Earth Science) and grade level (8-12) licensure from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
- Bachelor’s Degree with appropriate license; or Master’s Degree with appropriate content area license preferred and/or expected within 5 years.
