About the Role
The Campus Monitor at the high school level provides campus security supervision to assist in maintaining a safe and secure environment for all students, faculty, and staff. The Campus Monitor enforces District policies and school protocols to prevent, detect, and confront threats to students and the school, and to help promote a safe and healthy educational environment.
Pay
Salary Range 16: $27.42 to $37.58/hour
Schedule
8 hours/day, 185 days/year
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid Driver’s License and evidence of insurability
- Criminal Justice fingerprint clearance
- Current First Aid/CPR Cards
- Prior job-related experience in a school or institutional setting, law enforcement, or surveillance preferred
Knowledge and Skills
- District policies and procedures regarding attendance and discipline
- Basic concepts of criminal justice and law enforcement methods
- Operating surveillance equipment and computer programs (email, word processing, databases, spreadsheets)
- Proper use and protocols of communication equipment, including walkie-talkies
- Effective communication with students, staff, parents, and community members
- Interacting with persons of different age groups and cultural backgrounds
- Understanding and carrying out verbal and written instructions
- Working independently or in a team as a self-starter
- Planning, prioritizing, and completing assignments with minimal supervision
- Handling multiple projects, tasks, and deadlines simultaneously
- Performing a variety of tasks and adjusting to flexible assignments with short notice
- Administering first aid
Responsibilities
- Ensure safety and security of students, staff, and building
- Enforce school and district discipline codes
- Maintain high visibility at all times
- Participate in school meetings (e.g., PBIS, Yellow Zone, Attendance)
- Collaborate with school administration, District staff, and outside agencies to improve safety and security
- Supervise students in various settings, including evening sports events and other student activities
- Participate in parking lot supervision and bus loading/unloading
- Monitor security cameras
- Intervene in student conflicts and assist with de-escalation of behavior
- Assist with school-related investigations
- Attend training and utilize district-approved de-escalation and physical intervention techniques
- Monitor social media tools for potential threats
- Notify administrators and coordinate with law enforcement regarding potential criminal activity
- Assist in identifying drug/alcohol use and abuse
- Maintain records related to responsibilities
- Serve as a member of the district’s law enforcement unit, working cooperatively with law enforcement officials
- Work cooperatively with student council
- Assist with transportation needs of students, including supervision of bus loading/unloading
- Perform other tasks as assigned within the scope of the job description
- Administer medication to students when required
Physical Requirements
- Frequently sit, stand, move around, talk, and hear in potentially noisy environments
- Specific vision abilities: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
- Use precise control of fingers and hand movement (e.g., keyboarding, handling objects)
- Physically capable of bending, stooping, kneeling, running, lifting, pushing, and jumping
- Physically capable of utilizing approved restraint techniques in emergencies
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; restrain or move more than 100 pounds in student safety interventions

- Dress professionally and appropriately for the assignment
- Exercise prudent judgment and remain calm in confrontational situations
- Work independently and follow all District policies and procedures
- Participate in required meetings and trainings
- Maintain required licenses/certifications and complete mandatory trainings
- Demonstrate professionalism when communicating with diverse individuals
- If bilingual, may be requested to interpret, translate documents, or communicate orally in a second language
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with students, staff, administrators, and law enforcement
Working Conditions
- Occasionally work in outside weather conditions
- Occasionally exposed to wet/humid conditions, fumes, airborne particles, toxic/caustic chemicals
- May be exposed to blood or other potentially infectious materials
- Maintain a flexible schedule to respond to security needs
