Hematology Thought Leader Liaison - Mid Atlantic/South Atlantic
Remote role covering the Mid Atlantic and South Atlantic regions: Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Washington DC, Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia.
About the role
The Thought Leader Liaison (TLL), Hematology builds and manages strategic relationships with a select group of U.S. external experts (EEs), focusing on cultivating partnerships and insights across both academic and community oncology settings. This role ensures commercial strategies reflect the realities of where patients receive care. The TLL is accountable for generating strategic insights, translating science to actionability, and building brand advocacy through robust engagement planning and insight generation aligned to brand and therapeutic area strategies.
The TLL generates strategic insights through ongoing interactions with external experts, congresses, and executive engagements, working closely with US/Global Commercial, Medical, and Regulatory partners to translate field perspectives into meaningful business actions. This role supports oncology in-line brands within the assigned geography while preparing the organization for successful oncology launches through disease-state engagement, external expert partnership, and insights that inform future commercial strategy.
Six geographies cover the United States, each aligned with an Oncology Field Vice President, who will be an important stakeholder.
Responsibilities
- External Expert Engagement & Relationship Management
- Develop and execute regional strategic external expert engagement plans to build long-term partnerships and generate meaningful commercial insights, especially within the community setting.
- Plan and execute External Expert engagements aligned to brand priorities and External Expert needs outside of advisory and congress events, maintaining consistent execution as aligned with the TLL Director. This includes a mix of live and virtual engagements.
- Build regional brand advocacy segments and manage a thought leader network (network mapping) to optimize engagement and insight generation.
- Insight Generation & Strategic Impact
- Gather and synthesize regional insights from external experts through 1:1 interactions, congresses, and publications, providing them to the brand team.
- Share synthesized insights with commercial leadership to shape brand strategy, resource allocation, customer engagement strategies, and launch planning.
- Identify emerging treatment paradigm shifts, competitive dynamics, biomarker evolution, and unmet needs in the region that may influence future commercial strategy.
- Seek compliant External Expert feedback on initiatives and materials.
- Advisory, Peer to Peer & Congress Engagements
- Execute and synthesize advisory boards, expert consultancies, and other strategic engagement forums to answer critical business questions and inform commercial decision-making.
- Coordinate and support External Expert executive interactions with commercial leadership.
- Shape peer-to-peer education content through speaker identification, training/operations support, and relationship management.
- Participate in key local, regional, and national congresses, serving as onsite host for congress product theater speakers and EEs.
- Capture and synthesize congress insights to identify emerging trends, competitive developments, and implications for brand strategy.
- Cross-Functional & Operational Excellence
- Partner effectively with medical, legal, compliance, regulatory, and marketing teams to ensure external engagements are strategically aligned and compliant with GSK policies and PHARMA guidelines.
- Apply strong project management skills to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Manage agency and vendor partners to ensure timely, high-quality execution.
- Understand and mitigate risks associated with Strategic Engagement activities.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in field sales, product marketing, or medical/clinical roles within pharma or biotech.
- Oncology experience required.
- Experience presenting to executive audiences (live and virtual) and influencing strategic decisions or stakeholder alignment.
- Experience leveraging insights to guide strategy development and proactively refine approaches in response to evolving data and market dynamics.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Willingness to travel 60-80%, including nights and weekends.
- Ability to communicate effectively with healthcare professionals and executives.
- Experience with technology, software, and adaptability to learn new AI tools.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience as an Oncology Thought Leader Liaison.
- Experience with Multiple Myeloma and Myelofibrosis.
- Master’s degree.
- Strong account management and cross-functional leadership experience.
- Marketing and/or sales management background.
- Advanced project management and organizational skills.
- Proven adherence to regulatory and compliance standards with proactive risk identification and mitigation.
Pay
If based in Cambridge, MA; Waltham, MA; Rockville, MD; or San Francisco, CA, the annual base salary for new hires in this position ranges from $152,625 to $254,375. For other US locations, the annual base salary range is $138,750 to $231,250. The salary ranges account for work location, skills, experience, education level, and market rate for the role.
In addition, this position offers an annual bonus and eligibility to participate in a share-based long-term incentive program, dependent on the level of the role.
