Hematology Supervisor

Department: PCH-MAIN | Lab Administration, Phoenix – Full-Time

About the role

This position works collaboratively with section directors, managers, technical specialists, and the leadership team to provide technical and personnel supervision for assigned staff, ensuring high-quality daily operations. Responsibilities include achieving and complying with the established operating budget, quality control, inventory management, and regulatory standards. Supervision of completed work activities is received from the Laboratory Manager or Director.

Responsibilities

• Performs patient testing, quality control testing, and instrument maintenance procedures to ensure ongoing compliance with policies, regulations, and safety guidelines for safe work practices.
• Supervises daily technical operations of the laboratory section by monitoring quality and effectiveness of workflow, problem resolution, troubleshooting issues, and processes to ensure optimum efficiency and compliance with all regulatory and licensing requirements.
• Supervises work activities of assigned staff to ensure achievement of established goals, objectives, and outcomes; provides guidance, mentors, and direction as appropriate for ongoing staff development.
• Develops and maintains policies and guidelines; employs policies and procedures, regulatory guidelines, and professional standards to validate current practice requirements and support overall organizational values and mission.
• Participates in hospital and department operational and quality improvement initiatives; proactively evaluates systems, practices, and assists in creating and implementing changes to increase and enhance operational effectiveness. Also, participates in organizational committees as pertinent.
• Ensures adherence to departmental operating and capital budgets.
• Maintains professional and technical competency through constant pursuit of knowledge and self-improvement, remaining apprised of current trends, developments, and awareness of the latest technology and practices to improve outcomes.
• Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as requested.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science or related field, or a combination of education and experience. Required.
• A minimum of 4 years of experience in the field of specialization in clinical settings. Required.
• A minimum of 3 years of experience as a Medical Lab Scientist in clinical laboratory settings. Preferred.
• Previous leadership experience. Preferred.
• Pediatric experience. Preferred.
• Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Technologist in field of specialization ASCP Certification or equivalent. Required.
• Specialist in field of specialization ASCP Certification. Preferred.
• Certification/License/Registry: Amer Soc Clinical Pathology, Med Lab Scientist (AMT), Med LabTech (AMT), or Medical Technologist (AMT). Required.
