Heavy Equipment Operator/Foreman

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate heavy construction equipment including excavators, bulldozers, loaders, graders, skid steers, rollers, and dump trucks.
  • Supervise and coordinate daily activities of construction crews and equipment operators.
  • Assign tasks and ensure work is completed according to project schedules and specifications.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, grade stakes, and site plans.
  • Maintain job site safety and enforce OSHA and company safety policies.
  • Cook up equipment usage, material deliveries, and workflow on job sites.
  • Conduct daily equipment inspections and report maintenance or repair needs.
  • Communicate with project managers, foremen, subcontractors, and field personnel regarding project progress and site conditions.
  • Ensure quality standards are maintained throughout all phases of work.
  • Train and mentor crew members on proper equipment operation and safe work practices.
  • Maintain accurate daily reports, production tracking, and equipment logs.

Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or GED preferred.
  • A minimum of 3–5 years of heavy equipment operating experience.
  • Previous crew leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
  • A strong understanding of excavation, grading, utility, site development, or road construction operations.
  • The ability to read blueprints and construction drawings.
  • A valid driver’s license required; a CDL is preferred.
  • A knowledge of OSHA safety regulations and construction site procedures.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.

Work Environment

  • This position works primarily on active construction sites with exposure to heavy equipment, dust, noise, and changing weather conditions.
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required at all times.
