Heavy Equipment Mechanic/Oiler (HEM III) , CDL Training Provided-Craig- Extended

About the role

The position is open to Colorado state residents only. New employees will be paid biweekly with 26 pay periods per year. The role is located in Craig and requires obtaining a CDL Permit within 30 days of hire and a CDL Class A or B within 120 days, with no restriction on air brakes.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, diagnose, troubleshoot, modify, and repair light and heavy trucks and specialized snow, ice, and road repair equipment.
• Diagnose, service, and repair various systems on heavy equipment such as transmissions, brake systems, electrical systems, ignition systems, fuel systems, hydraulic systems.
• Perform scheduled fleet preventive maintenance, including oil changes, lubrication services, and annual DOT inspections.
• Train patrol members on routine maintenance services.
• Inspect, repair, install components, and ensure AVL reporting functions correctly.
• Perform routine preventative maintenance services, DOT/CDOT inspections, and minor repairs.
• Install radios, safety equipment, route electrical wiring, install reflective tape, decommission vehicles, and order supplies.
• Complete documentation, track equipment maintenance, and maintain federal DOT inspection records.
• Create, prepare, review, and edit work orders in SAP.
• Learn to diagnose and repair a variety of heavy equipment systems, fabricate, machine, and weld special-use parts, and instruct operators on vehicle and equipment use.
• Respond to emergencies, travel to remote locations, and perform mechanical repairs in adverse weather and road conditions.
• Use computers for data input, records management, and email.
• Participate in regional training, work unit meetings, and committees.
• Lead training on proper service and maintenance equipment.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Four years of progressively responsible experience in automotive AND heavy equipment repair, including at least one year of experience with diagnosis and repair of heavy diesel equipment.
• A combination of related education, formalized apprenticeship program, and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned equal to four years.
• Satisfactory completion of a formalized apprenticeship program or higher level non-correspondence coursework from an accredited college or technical school, beyond high school, in automotive and diesel equipment mechanics or heavy equipment mechanics.
• Experience in automotive AND heavy equipment repair, including at least one year of experience with diagnosis and repair of heavy diesel equipment.

Qualifications

• Education and experience equivalent to four years of progressively responsible experience in automotive AND heavy equipment repair, including at least one year of experience with diagnosis and repair of heavy diesel equipment.
• Unofficial transcripts or a copy of your certificate of completion are required if using education towards qualifications.
• Must obtain CDL Permit within 30 days of hire and CDL Class A or B within 120 days, with no restriction on air brakes.
• Must pass a pre-employment drug test and DOT physical.
• Must be able to lift up to 70 lbs, bend, kneel, climb in/out of trucks, operate CDOT vehicles, hear and communicate via cell phone and state radio, and work in extreme temperatures and weather conditions.

Pay

Starting base pay is typically $64,428-$67,848/year.

Schedule

Expected work schedule is 4 10-hour days. Approximately 40% of the time is spent in the field and 60% spent in the equipment shop. Required to respond to emergencies outside regular work hours and work overtime including weekends and holidays. Some on-call time is required.
