Responsibilities

  • Performing preventive maintenance inspections.
  • Inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing major malfunctions on motor vehicles and motor equipment.
  • Performing standard preventive maintenance services such as changing oil, fueling, cleaning, or greasing parts.
  • Aiding in snow removal procedures on Airport Runways and taxiways.
  • Road-testing vehicles and equipment to ensure safety and reliability.

Qualifications

  • Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
  • Experience: Four years of experience servicing, maintaining and repairing motor vehicles, gasoline and/or diesel engines, or heavy-duty construction equipment. Two years of the required experience must include servicing and repairing heavy duty construction equipment and diesel engines.
  • Note: Applicants may substitute additional documented and relevant experience repairing, servicing and maintaining automobiles, trucks, buses or comparable equipment on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

Notes

  • Completion of an accredited training program for Heavy Equipment or Diesel Repair may be substituted for one and one-half years of the general experience.
  • Certification as a Technician by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) can be substituted for two years of the required education.
  • Certification as a Master Technician in one or more subject areas by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) can be substituted for the required education.

Licenses & Certifications

  • Employees are assigned duties that require the operation of motor vehicles. Employees must possess and maintain a Class C motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
  • Employees are required to possess and maintain a Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) valid in the State of Maryland during the probationary period, depending on the type of equipment operated.
  • Employees in this class may be required to obtain Special Commercial Driver's License Endorsements for Hazardous Materials and Tank Vehicles depending on the type of equipment operated.
