Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Reads job order and observes truck operation to determine malfunction and plan work procedures.
- Performs preventative maintenance such as engine tune-ups, installs new brakes, tires, ignition systems, aligns front wheels, changes or recharges batteries, and replaces transmissions and other parts as needed.
- Examines protective guards, loose bolts, and safety devices on trucks, and makes adjustments.
- Lubricates moving parts and drives repaired truck to verify conformance to specifications.
- Fabricates special lifting or towing attachments, hydraulic systems, shields, or other devices according to blueprints or schematic drawings.
- Troubleshoots and repairs defective parts in mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems.
- Uses computers to diagnose equipment and research information.
- Operates shop machinery and equipment including hoists, overhead cranes, forklifts, hydraulic jacks, compressors, steam cleaners, floor jacks, disassembly stands, grinders, drill presses, hydraulic presses, valve and seat grinders, and bead blasters.
- Selects and uses precision tools such as torque wrenches, micrometers, dial indicators, tap and dies, and bore gauges.
- All other job duties as assigned.

- A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) and 3+ years heavy duty truck mechanic experience required.
