About the role
Knife River is seeking an experienced Heavy Duty Truck Mechanic to join our Missoula division. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working independently and as part of a team, handling tasks in extreme weather conditions.
Responsibilities
- Perform significant maintenance on all Class 8 trucks, and assist with repairs and improvements.
- Maintain trucks in safe and suitable working condition.
- Safely operate various tools and equipment including torches, welders, hoists, forklifts, and specialty equipment.
- Troubleshoot heavy truck maintenance issues, diagnose problems, and determine necessary repairs.
- Read and interpret technical manuals and schematics to diagnose and repair parts and components.
- Order necessary parts and supplies, and fabricate parts when needed.
- Avoid safety hazards, accurately complete shop forms, and maintain a clean, compliant work area.
- Communicate effectively with coworkers and customers, handle multiple projects, and meet deadlines.
- Operate company vehicles for field service repairs.
- Provide your own basic hand tools, pneumatics, and specialty tools.
- Work flexible shifts including nights, evenings, and weekends.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the shop manager.
Requirements
- Valid driving record.
- Experience with heavy truck repair.
- (Preferred) Own tools.
- (Preferred but not required) Class A CDL.
Qualifications
- Competitive wage range of $25 - $35 per hour DOE.
