HEAVY DUTY MECHANIC
About the role
The Fresno County Department of General Services seeks a Heavy Duty Mechanic to join our team. This position is responsible for diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic malfunctions on heavy duty trucks and/or construction equipment.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair malfunctions on heavy duty trucks and/or construction equipment.
- Maintain and inspect vehicles to ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Perform preventative maintenance tasks to extend vehicle lifespan.
- Work independently and as part of a team to troubleshoot complex issues.
Requirements
- Two (2) years of full-time, paid work experience as a heavy equipment mechanic performing inspections and maintenance, diagnosing malfunctions, and repairing engines and other components on heavy-duty trucks and/or construction equipment.
- Completion of fifteen (15) semester units of coursework in automotive and/or diesel technology, or a closely related field, that is acceptable within the United States' accredited college or university system may substitute for one (1) year of the required experience.
- Possession of a valid Class “C” driver’s license, or equivalent.
- If applicable, possession of a valid Class "A" driver's license, or equivalent.
Qualifications
- Completion of an approved heavy-duty equipment apprentice mechanic program certified by the Division of Apprenticeship Standards (DAS), California Department of Industrial Relations.
