The Salvation Army, an evangelical part of the universal Christian church, operates a cooling center in Chandler, AZ. The center is open Monday through Friday from 11 AM to 5 PM and on weekends during excessive heat warnings. The mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and meet human needs without discrimination.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or GED is required.
- A positive attitude and ability to work with diverse backgrounds are necessary.
- An ability to maintain a non-judgmental attitude, professional approach, and boundaries with clients is required.
- Crisis/emergency services, crisis intervention, crowd management, and conflict resolution skills are essential.
- An excellent verbal and written communication skill set is necessary.
- A valid Arizona driver's license with a clean driving record is required.
- A successful background clearance is necessary.
Responsibilities
- Maintain visual and continuous interaction with heat relief participants.
- Handle check-ins and provide program information upon arrival, using proper record-keeping and screening procedures.
- Remove and store weapons, tools, and cell phones, returning them upon exit.
- Set up and tear down equipment and restock supplies.
- Ensure compliance with program rules and expectations, maintaining a safe and manageable environment.
- Process signups for shower, laundry, and clothing services, providing hygiene items and laundry soap.
- Assist participants with issue resolution within limits.
- Monitor the smoking patio for appropriate usage and cleanliness, cleaning the area as needed.
- Investigate and report incidents appropriately, or as needed to emergency responders.
- Provide accurate and thorough written communication in the Incident Report Logbook for management and support workers.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Physical Requirements
- Regularly walk, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and reach with hands and arms.
- Frequently lift and/or move up to 35 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
