About the role

As a Health Unit Coordinator in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), you will support the organization and flow of the department by performing administrative and clerical tasks. This role provides specialized, high-acuity care to critically ill patients who require close monitoring, advanced interventions, and comprehensive medical support. You will deliver exceptional customer service to patients, families, and visitors while working alongside a dedicated team of caregivers.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-person greetings, welcome, and orientation for newly admitted and transferred patients.
  • Respond to patient call lights and make rounds.
  • Assist with processing patient admissions, transfers, and discharges.
  • Assist patients and families with wayfinding and direct them to available resources.
  • Assemble and maintain patient medical records and other documents related to patient care.
  • Handle computer tasks, such as updating schedules and managing patient information.
  • Assist with unit clerical functions and troubleshoot equipment failures (e.g., call system, portable phones, WOWs, and other unit devices).

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • One year of experience in a customer service-related role.
  • Experience with typing, computer training, or equivalent coursework.

Preferred Qualifications

  • College degree.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

Physical Requirements

  • Full range of motion, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
  • Frequent data entry, standing, and walking for extensive periods of time.
  • Normal or corrected speech, hearing, and vision.
  • Some exposure to communicable disease or body fluids.

Personal Protective Equipment

Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Schedule

This role works evenings from 2:30 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. with rotating weekend and holiday requirements.

Pay

The pay range for new hires is $18.25 – $24.95 per hour. A successful candidate’s actual compensation will be determined based on work history, experience, skill set, and education. This range does not include applicable pay practices (e.g., shift differentials, overtime) or the value of Cleveland Clinic’s benefits package (e.g., healthcare, dental, vision, retirement savings contributions).
