Health Unit Coordinator - Heart Failure ICU

As a Health Unit Coordinator (HUC), you will provide exceptional customer service to patients, families, visitors, and staff while supporting a positive patient experience in a fast-paced clinical environment. You will perform administrative and clerical duties to ensure efficient department operations while supporting the Heart Failure ICU (HFICU), a 10-bed specialty care unit focused on patients with chronic heart failure conditions.
Responsibilities
- Conduct an in-person greeting, welcome, and orientation to the unit for newly admitted and transferred patients.
- Respond to patient call lights and make rounds.
- Assist with processing patient admissions, transfers, and discharges.
- Assist patients and families with wayfinding and directing them to available resources.
- Assemble and maintain patient medical records and other documents related to patient care.
- Handle various computer tasks, such as updating schedules and managing patient information.
- Assist with unit clerical functions and troubleshoot equipment failures, such as call systems, portable phones, WOWs, and other unit devices.
- Support communication coordination, patient record management, order processing, and the interdisciplinary care team to promote safe, high-quality patient care.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- One year of experience in a customer service-related role.
- Experience with typing, computer training, or equivalent coursework.
Preferred Qualifications
- College degree.
- Experience with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
Physical Requirements
- Requires full range of motion, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
- Requires frequent data entry, standing, and walking for extensive periods of time.
- Requires normal or corrected speech, hearing, and vision.
- Requires some exposure to communicable disease or body fluids.
Personal Protective Equipment
Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
Pay
Pay range minimum hourly: $18.25. Maximum hourly: $24.95. The pay range displayed reflects the anticipated range for new hires. A successful candidate’s actual compensation will be determined after taking factors into consideration such as the candidate’s work history, experience, skill set, and education. The pay range does not include any applicable pay practices (e.g., shift differentials, overtime, etc.) or the value of Cleveland Clinic’s benefits package (e.g., healthcare, dental and vision benefits, retirement savings account contributions, etc.).
