About the role

The Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) provides exceptional customer service to patients, families, visitors, and staff while supporting a positive patient experience in a fast-paced clinical environment. This role performs a variety of administrative and clerical duties to ensure efficient operational flow within the department. The HUC supports the Coronary Intensive Care Unit (CICU), a 24-bed critical care unit specializing in the treatment of patients experiencing complex and life-threatening cardiac conditions.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate communication among patients, families, visitors, and staff
• Manage patient records and documents related to care
• Process patient admissions, transfers, and discharges
• Assist patients and families with wayfinding and direct them to available resources
• Respond to patient call lights and make rounds
• Assist with unit clerical functions and troubleshoot equipment failures (e.g., call system, portable phones, WOWs, and other unit devices)
• Conduct in-person greeting, welcome, and orientation for newly admitted and transferred patients

Schedule

Evenings, 3:00 pm—11:30 pm. Weekend and holiday rotation required.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• 1 year of experience in a customer service-related role
• Experience with typing, computer training, or equivalent coursework

Qualifications

• College degree
• Microsoft Office experience

Physical Requirements

• Full range of motion, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination
• Frequent data entry, standing, and walking for extensive periods of time
• Normal or corrected speech, hearing, and vision
• Some exposure to communicable disease or body fluids

Personal Protective Equipment

Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Pay

Minimum hourly: $18.25
Maximum hourly: $24.95
