Health Unit Coordinator - Acute Rehab Unit

Part-time, evening shift (3 pm–8 pm). 50 hours per pay period on a rotating schedule that includes every other weekend. Schedule finalized after orientation; management may adjust it with 30 days’ notice before each 6-week scheduling period. Holidays scheduled in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Join a team that treats the whole person—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. As a Health Unit Coordinator (HUC), you’ll perform clerical and support tasks that ensure excellent customer service, accurate documentation, and seamless patient care.

Responsibilities

• Answer telephones with proper identification, contact physicians, and relay communications to other departments.
• Notify appropriate personnel after hours to complete or communicate urgent requests.
• Coordinate patient orders during hospitalization and follow-up after discharge.
• Process orders for labs, x-rays, cardiology, vascular studies; enter orders into the computer and record medications on MAR sheets.
• Obtain medical records from internal and external hospitals for physicians, social workers, nursing homes, and patients.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent (required).
• Current Health Unit Coordinator experience (preferred).
• Medical terminology course or equivalent experience (required).
• Ability to collect, organize, and present data in a user-friendly format.
• Strong oral and written communication skills; legible handwriting.
• Proficiency in data entry and computer use.
