Part time, evening shift (3 pm–8 pm, 50 hours per pay period). Set rotating schedule includes every other weekend; final schedule provided after orientation. Management may adjust schedules with 30 days’ notice before each 6-week scheduling period. Holidays scheduled in accordance with CBA.
About the role
Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) in an organization focused on treating the whole person—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. The HUC performs clerical and support functions, documents patient services, and supports healthcare providers in delivering excellent customer service.
Responsibilities
- Answer telephones with proper identification, contact physicians, and complete communication requests with other departments. Notify appropriate personnel after hours as needed.
- Coordinate patient orders during hospitalization and follow up after discharge.
- Process orders for labs, x-rays, cardiology, vascular, and enter them into the computer; write medications on MAR sheets.
- Acquire medical records from internal and external hospitals for physicians, medical social workers, nursing homes, and patients.
Requirements
- High school graduation required.
- Current Health Unit Coordinator experience preferred.
- Medical terminology course or equivalent experience.
- Ability to collect and organize data into user-friendly formats.
- Strong oral and written communication skills; neat handwriting.
- Proficiency in data entry and computer use.
