Overview

We are seeking a Health Information Technician I, sometimes referred to as our Health Information Management Technician I (HIM) or Medical Records Technician I in our Data Quality department. Our Health Information Technician I secures, assembles, and maintains patient health records after discharge, ensuring all documentation is complete and properly filed in the legal medical record. The Health Information Technician I will manage loose reports, process authorized record requests, and maintain accurate chart tracking for easy retrieval. The Health Information Technician I also includes reviewing emergency room documentation for completeness and providing customer service to physicians, patients, and families while protecting confidentiality.

Hours: 8-hour shift – 8:00am to 4:00pm

Responsibilities

  • Collect, organize, scan, and maintain patient medical records in paper and electronic systems ensuring accuracy and completeness
  • Process and release medical records for authorized requests while following HIPAA and hospital privacy requirements
  • Review charts for missing signatures or deficiencies and support compliance with audits and regulatory standards
  • Use hospital EHR systems to track, update, and retrieve records while correcting errors and maintaining data integrity
  • assist physicians, patients, and families with record requests and questions while providing courteous customer service and confidentiality

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Experience with accurate alphabetic and numeric filing; preferred
  • One year hospital experience; preferred
  • Knowledge of terminal digit filing and medical terminology; preferred
  • Computer data entry with 10-key, with accurate typing speed of 35 wpm; preferred
  • Completion of a medical terminology course; preferred
