About the Opportunity
The Health Information Specialist I is an entry-level role responsible for processing medical record requests efficiently and accurately. This position ensures the protection of patient privacy by managing release of information in compliance with relevant regulations and company policies. The role contributes directly to maintaining data integrity and supporting healthcare information access.
Responsibilities
- Process patient health information requests according to policies and procedures.
- Safeguard patient privacy and maintain confidentiality.
- Utilize company and facility software effectively.
- Follow organizational codes of conduct and policies.
- Communicate work issues and volume changes to management.
- Support additional duties as required.
- Apply medical privacy regulations consistently.
- Manage and protect patient health records in compliance with HIPAA.
- Prepare new patient charts and gather necessary documents.
- Assemble and verify medical records for accuracy and completeness.
- Create digital images of paperwork for electronic records.
- Respond to internal and external patient record requests.
- Handle inbound and outbound calls.
- Assist walk-in patients and perform administrative tasks such as fax handling, mail opening, and data entry.
- Maintain productivity expectations.
- Schedule pick-ups as needed.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Ability to commute between locations.
- Willingly to work overtime during peak periods.
- Basic computer skills.
- Proficient with phones, fax machines, printers, and general office equipment.
- Professional verbal and written English communication skills.
- Detail-oriented with focus on accurate and compliant medical record information.
- Strong data entry ability.
- Ability to work independently and adapt to changing priorities.
- Organizational skills for managing multiple tasks.
- Ability to respond promptly in a fast-paced environment.
Pay Range and Compensation Package
The estimated base pay range per hour for this role is: $15—$15 USD.
