About the Opportunity
The Health Information Specialist I is an entry-level position focused on processing medical record requests accurately and efficiently while ensuring compliance with privacy regulations. This role is critical in safeguarding patient information and supporting the organization's data management processes within a high-volume environment. The position contributes to the organization's mission by maintaining data integrity and confidentiality, directly impacting the quality of service delivered to customers and patients.
Responsibilities
- Receive and process patient health information requests according to policies and procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality and security of privileged information.
- Stay proficient with company and facility software.
- Follow company and facility codes of conduct and policies.
- Report work and site issues or volume changes to management.
- Auxiliary duties as needed.
- Apply medical privacy regulations consistently to prevent unauthorized disclosures.
- Manage patient health records and ensure HIPAA compliance.
- Prepare new patient charts and gather necessary documents.
- Assemble medical records accurately and completely.
- Create digital images of paperwork for electronic records.
- Respond to internal and external requests for patient records appropriately.
- Handle inbound and outbound calls.
- Assist with patient walk-ins and administrative tasks such as faxing, mail handling, and data entry.
- Meet site-specific productivity expectations.
- Schedule pickups when required.
- Perform other assigned duties.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Ability to commute between locations if necessary.
- Willingness to work overtime during peak periods.
- Basic computer skills.
- Proficiency with phones, fax machines, printers, and general office equipment.
- Professional English communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and compliance.
- Strong data entry skills.
- Ability to work independently and adapt to changing priorities.
- Organizational skills to manage multiple tasks.
- Ability to respond promptly in a fast-paced environment.
Pay Range and Compensation Package
The estimated base pay range per hour for this role is: $15—$15 USD.
