About the Opportunity

The Health Information Specialist I is responsible for processing release of information requests, primarily medical record requests, in a timely and accurate manner. This entry-level role ensures compliance with privacy regulations and company policies while providing high-quality service to customers. The position supports the secure management and handling of patient health information within a high-volume environment.

Responsibilities

  • Receive, log, and process patient health information and Release of Information (ROI) requests following strict organizational and healthcare facility policies
  • Maintain absolute confidentiality and technical security of all privileged, protected health information (PHI)
  • Utilize proprietary company software, hospital electronic health record (EHR) systems, and facility databases effectively
  • Adhere continuously to all corporate codes of conduct, compliance policies, and operational workflows
  • Identify and report complex workspace anomalies or immediate site challenges directly to management for resolution
  • Apply federal, state, and institutional medical privacy regulations stringently to prevent unauthorized disclosures of sensitive data
  • Manage patient health records proactively and ensure total, uncompromised HIPAA compliance throughout the data lifecycle
  • Prepare, organize, and update new patient charts with physical and digital documents gathered from paper and electronic medical records
  • Assemble, audit, and index medical records accurately to ensure complete and comprehensive file packages
  • Scan physical files and create high-resolution digital images of paperwork for seamless integration into electronic health records
  • Respond promptly to internal and external requests for patient records from providers, legal entities, and insurance carriers
  • Handle inbound and outbound phone calls professionally, addressing general inquiries regarding the records release process
  • Absorb patient walk-ins politely and manage daily administrative tasks, including faxing, mail handling, sorting, and data entry
  • Meet or exceed all site-specific daily productivity and quality assurance expectations
  • Cook up secure document pick-ups or courier runs as necessary
  • Assist with additional administrative or clerical duties as requested by leadership

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, General Education Development (GED) certificate, or equivalent background required
  • Demonstrated ability and reliable transportation to commute flexibly between assigned regional facility locations
  • Full operational availability to work structured overtime hours during peak business periods or high-volume backlogs
  • Strong basic computer skills, including fluid keyboard navigation, multi-window multitasking, and data entry comfort
  • Direct hands-on experience operating standard office equipment, such as multi-line phones, fax machines, high-volume scanners, and printers
  • Professional verbal and written English communication skills, with an emphasis on customer-facing politeness and clear articulation
  • Exceptional attention to detail and an unyielding commitment to regulatory compliance in medical records handling
  • Strong, accurate alphanumeric data entry skills to maintain database integrity
  • Ability to work productively and independently under minimal direct supervision while adapting readily to changing priorities
  • Proven organizational skills to manage, track, and execute multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Resourcefulness and emotional resilience to respond effectively and calmly in a fast-paced, high-volume healthcare setting

Pay Range and Compensation Package

The target baseline wage rate is $15.00 USD per hour. The final assignment within this hourly framework is determined dynamically based on the candidate's prior exposure to medical terminology, technical platform familiarity, and localized operational factors.
