About the role
The Health Information Management Department (Medical Records) is a service-oriented department focused on accurately and legally maintaining the medical records of patients seen/treated at OSU Medical Center. This includes all inpatient, outpatient, and emergency records.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage scanning, analyzing, release of information, transcription, coding, and clinical documentation improvement within regulatory standards and guidelines.
- Monitor and manage the HIM department to align with the hospital's goals.
- Interview, hire, counsel, and monitor daily activities of HIM employees; provide support in training new employees, monitor projects and progress in the department.
- Work closely with physicians, residents, nurses, and ancillary departments to ensure high-quality customer support and service.
- Ongoing monitoring of the HIM Department’s financial dashboard metrics including Coding Days, DNFB Days, and AR Days and denial management.
- Consistently monitor compliance with AOA, HFAP, and other regulatory agencies.
- Maintain the departmental budget, not exceeding targeted operational budget expectations.
- Achieve and maintain positive working relationships with associated clinics, physicians, residents, employees, patients, and patient families to ensure quality healthcare services.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree
- Certification: RHIA or RHIT
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years supervisory experience in an acute care facility, excellent communication skills, experience in EPIC, and experience with change management.
