Health Coach - The Doctors Drury
The Doctors Drury is seeking a motivated and compassionate Health Coach to join our team and support patients on their journey towards better health outcomes. Health Coaches are based within GP clinics, working alongside GPs, nurses, and the wider primary care team to support patients as part of their everyday care.
About the Role
This is a permanent part-time role, working 21 hours per week over 3 days (Monday to Friday).
- Deliver brief, structured health coaching as part of routine primary care
- Support patients and their families/whānau to manage long-term health conditions by building confidence and skills to better manage health
- Support patients to identify and achieve their own health and wellbeing goals
- Build and maintain strong relationships with your clinic
- Work alongside Health Improvement Practitioners (HIPs) and another Health Coach as part of a wider multi-disciplinary team
- Connect patients with appropriate health, wellbeing, and community support services
- Provide support through face-to-face, telephone, and virtual consultations
- Facilitate group programmes and assist patients to navigate health and wellbeing services
- Work collaboratively with the wider clinical team to improve engagement and outcomes for patients who may be harder to reach
Requirements

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- A positive, motivating, and non-judgemental approach
- The ability to connect with people from a wide range of backgrounds and cultures
- Good time management and organisational skills
- Prior experience in NZ primary care (desirable)
- Formal Health Coach training (desirable)
- Working knowledge of chronic diseases (desirable)
- Genuine empathy and willingness to support people to work on their health
- Experience in problem-solving, self-management, goal setting, and creating action plans
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Legal rights to work in New Zealand
- Self-motivated and confident in reaching out to patients
- Culturally aware, with an understanding of the New Zealand health context
Experience working in health, community, social services, wellbeing, fitness, nutrition, or a related field would be advantageous but is not essential. Applicants must have NZ residency or a valid NZ work permit.
