Position Summary Information
Access Services Night Managers provide supervisory support to the Access Services department of Falvey Library. Night Managers are responsible for conducting the following tasks and procedures:
- Manage library desk services independently during late night hours (Sunday – Thursday) and weekend hours.
- Supervise and manage undergraduate student desk staff.
- Conduct circulation services, including supervisor policy overrides as needed.
- Provide basic to intermediate research assistance; conduct and interpret library catalog searches; refer patrons to subject librarian research services.
- Acquire and maintain knowledge of library policies; make informed decisions based on library policies, precedents, and operations.
- Assist with holds and interlibrary loan processing.
- Conduct additional library tasks as assigned.
- Assist patrons with library technology.
- Maintain and troubleshoot public printers, microfilm scanners, and book scanner technology.
- Maintain and troubleshoot service desk computers and technology.
- Assist patrons with computer hardware and software problems; refer patrons to UTS as needed.
- Respond to patron complaints and library disruptions, contact Public Safety and Access Services staff as needed.
- Report desk activities, situations, and issues that require follow-up to Service Desk Coordinators or appropriate Access Services staff.
- Conduct closing procedures: secure library collections and materials, shut down and secure department areas, conduct preliminary closing walkthroughs, contact Public Safety for final closing walkthroughs.
- Contact Public Safety for facilities, custodial, and emergency services, such as building maintenance or safety concerns.
Requirements
Must be a currently enrolled graduate student at Villanova University.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strict attention to detail and reliability are required.
- Ability to work and make decisions independently required.
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks with great accuracy and consistency required.
- Excellent interpersonal skills; able to handle difficult situations; customer service experience preferred.
- Experience using hardware (laptops, pc’s, printers, scanners, mobile devices), software (Windows, Mac, web browsers, Novasis, Webmail, Brightspace), and wireless network access preferred.
- Familiarity with the library’s catalog, journals, databases and web search engines preferred.
Additional Information
Semester Library Service Hours:
- Monday – Thursday: 8am – 12am
- Friday: 8am – 5pm
- Saturday: 9am – 5pm
- Sunday: 12pm – 12am
Physical Demands Summary
Prolonged sitting, standing, and walking for up to 4 hours at a time; frequent bending and lifting; able to lift 30 lbs. of library materials while moving/walking; pushing and pulling a book truck (4 wheels) of library materials weighing between 50 and 100 lbs.; ability to climb several flights of stairs on an occasional basis.
Wage Rate
$15.00/hour
