About the Role
The Head Men’s and Women’s Tennis Coach provides leadership, direction, and oversight for all aspects of the Mount Saint Mary College tennis programs. This role promotes the holistic development of student-athletes through competitive excellence, academic achievement, and personal growth, while advancing the department’s commitment to gender equity and inclusive leadership. The position ensures compliance with all NCAA, Skyline Conference, and College regulations, fosters a positive and supportive team culture, and contributes to the strategic vision and decision-making processes within the Athletics Department.
Responsibilities
- Lead, direct, and organize all aspects of the Men’s & Women’s Tennis program.
- Ensure compliance with all NCAA, Skyline Conference, and Mount Saint Mary College rules and regulations.
- Develop and implement successful training plans with a focus on the health and safety of student-athletes.
- Coordinate practice and competition schedules, team meetings, and daily communications with student-athletes.
- Recruit qualified student-athletes while adhering to NCAA rules and regulations; collaborate with Admissions and Financial Aid to guide prospective student-athletes through the admissions process.
- Ensure retention and academic eligibility of all Men’s & Women’s Tennis student-athletes.
- Manage the annual operating budget and make fiscally responsible decisions in collaboration with the Director of Athletics.
- Develop a competitive schedule in alignment with NCAA and Skyline Conference guidelines.
- Create and execute annual fundraising campaigns (e.g., the Go Blue campaign) to enhance the student-athlete experience.
- Oversee purchasing, management, and accounting of all equipment and uniforms in accordance with department procedures.
- Implement and execute a Men’s & Women’s Tennis summer camps program.
- Represent Mount Saint Mary College at Skyline Conference and NCAA meetings.
- Serve as Event Manager for home competitions of an agreed-upon sport during the traditional off-season.
- Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with departments such as Admissions, Financial Aid, Registrar, Student Accounts, Academic Affairs, and Student Affairs.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics or Vice President for Students.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Office Setting: Cubicles, open desks, or private offices with access to computers, phones, and office supplies. Remote work may be required with access to virtual communication platforms.
- Sitting: Prolonged periods at a desk or workstation.
- Typing/Computer Use: Frequent use of a keyboard and mouse.
- Vision Requirements: Ability to read and view screens for extended periods.
- Speaking/Hearing: Regular communication in person, over the phone, or via video calls.
- Lifting/Carrying: Occasionally lift or move items up to 10-15 pounds (e.g., office supplies, laptops, or documents).
- Reaching/Bending: Periodic reaching or bending to access files, supplies, or equipment.
- Mobility: Walking short distances within the office or to meeting rooms.
- Travel: Occasional overnight travel for local trips, championship competitions, NCAA Convention, and conference meetings.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Two to four years of college coaching/recruiting experience preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated flexibility, professionalism, and high standards of personal conduct and integrity.
- Ability to work independently, including evenings and weekends.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States (MSMC does not sponsor employment visas).
