Head Start and Early Head Start Home-Based Specialist

About the role

The Home-Based Specialist plays an essential role in the planning, implementation, coordination, training and evaluation of the Home-Based Early Head Start program. Responsibilities include overseeing the training and professional development of the home visiting team, enhancing collaborative elements of the total program, supporting transitions between home-based and center-based services, implementing the home-based curriculum, and ensuring full enrollment of the Home-Based Program.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the training and professional development of the home visiting team to ensure the provision of high-quality early childhood education services while using a family-centered approach.
• Work closely with content area specialists, education/site managers, and home-based services managers to enhance collaborative elements of the total program.
• Support transitions between home-based services and center-based services.
• Oversee the implementation of the home-based curriculum (prenatal to 5 years) and family goal-setting practices.
• Ensure the Agency Recruitment Plan is implemented to maintain full enrollment of the Home-Based Program.
• Collect program data and share relevant information with team members to help make informed decisions that improve participant and staff experiences.

Requirements

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development or related field.
• Experience: Five years of experience teaching young children; 2 years of supervisory or management level experience in related field preferred; Knowledge of needs of children with disabilities; experience observing and programming for children and experience in facilitating inclusive environments.
• Skills: Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of community, county, state and federal policies regarding Head Start and Childcare Licensing preferred. Skills in program development, implementation, operation, evaluation, and fiscal management preferred.
• Characteristics: Attention to detail, confidentiality, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to fostering a positive workplace and early childhood classroom experience.
• Technical: Successful completion of criminal record check, CPR/First Aid certification. A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation may be required for occasional travel between program locations.
