Head of Maintenance
Position Summary
The Head of Maintenance is responsible for overseeing and performing all maintenance, repair, and preventative maintenance activities for the travel center. This hands-on leadership role ensures the facility, equipment, fuel systems, and mechanical infrastructure are operating safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all regulatory requirements.
Essential Responsibilities
Oversee all maintenance operations for the travel center
Perform preventative maintenance and emergency repairs on facility equipment and building systems
Diagnose and repair HVAC systems, walk-in coolers, refrigeration equipment, boilers, plumbing, electrical, and general mechanical systems
Maintain and repair fuel dispensing equipment and ensure compliance with underground storage tank (UST) regulations
Operate, maintain, and repair snow removal equipment, including plow trucks
Perform general facility repairs including doors, lighting, flooring, fixtures, painting, and exterior maintenance
Cook with outside vendors and contractors for specialized repairs when necessary
Maintain maintenance records, inspections, and regulatory documentation
Ensure all work is completed safely and in accordance with OSHA, EPA, and company standards
Respond to after-hours maintenance emergencies as needed
Requirements
Minimum 5 years of commercial or industrial maintenance experience
Strong working knowledge of HVAC, refrigeration, boilers, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems
Experience maintaining fuel systems and convenience store/travel center equipment preferred
Ability to troubleshoot and repair a wide variety of equipment with minimal supervision
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
Required Certifications
Current Underground Storage Tank (UST) Certification (required)
Boiler Class C License required or the ability to obtain within a designated timeframe after hire
EPA Section 608 Refrigeration Certification preferred
Additional HVAC, electrical, or mechanical certifications are a plus
Physical Requirements
Frequently lift, push, pull, and carry up to 75 pounds
Climb ladders, work on rooftops, crawl in confined spaces, and stand for extended periods
Work safely around electrical, mechanical, and fuel systems
Availability
Available for on-call emergencies, weekends, holidays, and after-hours maintenance when required
